Documents and information in any medium from around the world (even in languages other than English) which mentions the word 'unbanked' is picked up and sent electronically to a group of individuals with a serious research interest by an official at the US Treasury. Charles Klingman is encouraging economic research on the unbanked in the US, and he has a wider interest in international developments as well. Over the two plus years I have been receiving the e-mail alerts from him, two things have happened: the frequency of e-mails has grown, which is a leading indicator of the subject attracting more media and scholarly attention; and the number of recipients has grown-presently some 150 people around the world, although predominantly US-based. This listserve represents the 'wiring' together of one of the broadest groups of policy makers, academics and consultants with interest in this subject. Charles is open to requests to join the list serve from those with a real interest: e-mail him at Charles.Klingman@do.treas.gov
