Services

Main practice areas

We have three main practice areas at present:

  1. Technology and access to financial services: we assist financial service providers, policy makers, regulators and donors with the design and enablement of new financial products and programs, supported by new technology. See for example, our recent report on the View “Enabling Environment for Mobile Banking in Africa”

  2. Housing finance: we consult on strategies and programs which expand the reach of housing finance—including housing microfinance. See our recent lecture on housing microfinance at Wharton’s International Housing Finance course. (forthcoming)

  3. Performance measurement for financial institutions and instruments: we are engaged in research and development on measures of the social performance of financial institutions, which enable credible blended measures to be developed.” See the chapter in the forthcoming HBS/ Jossey Bass book on “Strong double bottom line banking”.

Services provided:

Bankable Frontier Associates provides a range of services tailored to need of its clients with financial sector interest or focus. These include:

  • Strategic advice and facilitation: we have provided strategic advice to a range of public and private entities regarding the current strategy and future options. This includes facilitating high level workshops with board, management and staff.

  • Scenario building: scenarios are compelling, feasible stories of possible futures which create landscapes on which to test the rosbustness of strategy. We have built several different scenarios with a sectoral focus, such as Vision 2010 of the financial sector in South Africa in 2010.

  • Program/ project reviews and evaluations: we have been engaged by foundations and bilateral donors to undertake formal Mid Term or Output to Purpose reviews of major programs funded by them.

  • Program design and establishment: we have led the design of major new development finance institutions, programs and projects, and have in some cases, assisted with set up and initial management.

  • Business plan development: we have developed multi year business plans for a range of existing and new ventures. These plans have been used as the basis for raising new capital, as well as presenting a new direction to stakeholders.
